The Formal Minimalist

The Formal Minimalist

The Formal Minimalist by zin-s

Minimalist style is the only style you'll ever need whether you're dressing for a hot summer's day to attending a formal occasion. In this post, I'll be giving you tips on how to formally dress like a minimalist.

Firstly, don't have more than three colours in your outfit but try to focus on two. Minimalism is all about having as little things going on as possible, which is why in the outfit above there are three colours. One of the colours only appears once, in the shoes, and it acts an equaliser to stop the outfit being monochrome.

In a minimalist formal style, dresses and skirts are welcome but I think minimalism opens more options when you wear trousers  than other styles. If you're wanting to wear trousers to a formal event then this is a style that will make your outfit planning a lot easier.

Don't wear patterns. Well, you can but make sure they're delicate and simple with subtle colours. That being said, I think plain clothing works best.

Finally, jewellery should also be kept simple, such as the one in the outfit above. You are allowed to have a bit of fun by having something more exiting on your necklace but don't make it too big or too colourful or it will clash with your formal minimalist attire.

So, these have been a few quick tips on styling minimalism through formal wear and I hope you feel confident in being able to style yourself as a minimalist.

Let me know how you feel about this style.

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Him & Her

Valentine's day is this weekend and if you're someone who needs to be prepared for this celebration of romance then here are a few quick gift ideas to give the one you love.

Cucumber Mug - £6.00

In my opinion you can never go wrong with a mug. Unless the person you're giving it to has too many mugs. Like me. But I'd still be thrilled if I received one and even more so if it had a bad pun like this one from Paperchase. Make this gift more special by buying your loved one's favourite tea blend, coffee or hot chocolate with some marshmallows, biscuits or chocolates.

I'm the type of person who would buy this for myself, if I'm honest, because it's super cute! I think this would be a great Valentine's day present for someone who you've been with for a few years and have tired out all other loving ideas from past years.

How could I not include chocolate in this list? But because it's a special day don't just buy any old chocolates - get really good quality ones! Somehow a 57p chocolate bar doesn't say 'I love you' as much as £12 boxed heart shaped chocolates from a top-end brand.

For something a bit more personal and special - get a necklace! Z for Accessorize has some of the best jewellery I've seen and you won't hurt your bank account either. If you and your lover are still new to each other and you don't want to splash out too much but still want to give them something special then this is a great choice.

Some men have no knowledge on skin care so if you get them skin care products they will feel like they are receiving something that will be worthwhile. Maybe you have even noticed that their skin isn't the best so it will actually help them.

Beauty products in a box like this feels a lot more special than buying the products and wrapping them up yourselves for some reason. This gives them a chance to have a few good quality products and feel really good whilst using them - knowing that their lover had bought them.

And finally, another product that I think you can never go wrong with... in theory at least. Candles are great because they can make someone feel like they should have their own relaxation time and are more likely to do so if they receive a candle (at least I feel that way anyway). However, make sure the scent isn't something they wouldn't like or that's too strong.

To all the people celebrating Valentine's day - have a good time and I hope these gift ideas have helped you in that last minute rush! I certainly know that I will enjoy my date with my Laptop...

January 2015 Favourites

For the first post of the year I am doing a favourites post!

1. Boots Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Charcoal Facial Scrub

I find it really handy to have a facial scrub to use every so often just to help keep your face clean and to treat it every so often. I had originally been looking for another brand's charcoal scrub but I had used Boot's tea tree and witch hazel products in the past and decided to get this one instead. Immediately after I used it my face felt clean and soft.

Quick Tip: Scrubs tend to have bits in them (e.g charcoal) and they can damage your skin, this is why you should only use them every now and then and when you do, don't use force because they can catch on your skin and break it.

2. Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Lip Balm - Oh Orange

I love the Baby Lips range because I love to have lip balm on but I also like a bit of colour. This orange is a really nice colour as well because it isn't as 'electro' and bright as I thought it would be and it's almost like an orange and red colour. Some people have said that this colour suits paler skin better but I think that anyone could suit this so don't think it is limited!

3. Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Concentrated Hand Cream Unscented

I have put a Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream in a favourites post before, however this one is different! This one is concentrated and it practically healed my really dry and sore hands instantly. Other Neutrogena hand creams have healed my hands quickly too but after the first use of this they were completely different but it did take another few days until my whole hand was completely back to normal again.

4. Bohemian Soap - Lush

Just to clarify, they no longer stock the Baked Alaska soap unfortunately but the Bohemian is still available. Every product from Lush has the most amazing smell so, of course, these are no exception. The Bohemian has a lovely lemon and citrus scent whilst the Baked Alaska is quite fruity.

5. Topshop Copenhagen Lace-up Trainers

I really love these and, to me, they make a lazy, casual outfit look like it's had a bit more effort put into it. I personally like to team them with some black skinny jeans and a white top for a chic but still casual outfit.

6.  Z for Accessorize Jewellery

Firstly, I just want to say that pretty much everything in this line is perfect and I love all of it. I got both of these for Christmas the left is a necklace and the right is a bracelet. The deigns are really delicate and are perfect if you want to add a small touch to a plain outfit I think. I can't wait for summer when I won't be wearing long sleeves and hoodies so I can show the bracelet off.

7. BABOSARANG "Don't Worry About a Thing" Diary

This is the cutest diary I think I will ever own. It is a 2014-2015 diary but it doesn't have any specific dates on the days so you could use it whenever you want. It has cute messages to make you smile on almost every page and is a good way to get organised. Some phrases are in Korean but the majority is in English and I did start to wonder if the litle girl character was based of Choo Sarang because of the hair style?

8. The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly - Sun Mi Hwang

I was given this book for Christmas and it is quite a small book but unfortunately I'm only on the 3rd chapter. It is a very uplifting book that is quite inspirational and, because it is small, it would be perfect for a weekend away book to read or if you travel to school or work.

I hope you enjoyed!

P.S I know I said on my last post that I will update more in the new year but I don't think that it will happen, I'm coming up to my AS Level exams in the summer so there won't be many posts. I will introduce a semi-hiatus notice in a few months and then a hiatus around my exams but when the summer comes I will be updating more often again.
